CineCatch Privacy Policy & Community Guidelines

Effective August 3, 2026 · Last updated October 25, 2026

CineCatch helps you discover movies that fit your taste and meet people who share it. This page explains what data we collect and why, and the rules everyone using the app agrees to follow.

01 / What we collect

  • Account: your email address, or the name and email address from your Google or Apple account if you sign in with one. If you choose Hide My Email with Apple, we only receive Apple's private relay address.
  • Profile: your display name, chosen avatar, profile photos (up to 3, if you add them), birth year, gender, who you want to see, country and city (you pick them from a list; we never use GPS), bio and favorite genres.
  • Movie activity: the movies you swipe, save, watch and rate.
  • Social activity: likes, passes, blocks, matches, chat messages and Duo sessions.
  • Reports: reports you send, and reports sent about you.
  • Subscription: purchases go through Google Play on Android and the App Store on iPhone. Your card details never reach us.
  • Device: a notification token for this phone and your app language, so we can send you likes, matches and messages. It's removed when you sign out, turn these notifications off or delete your account.
  • Invitations: your invite code and, if you join through a friend, who invited you, so both of you get the Premium days. It's removed when you delete your account.

02 / What others can see

If you turn on People, other users can see your name, age, country and city, avatar and profile photos, gender, bio, level, favorite genres and movie taste. Your email address and date of birth are never shown. Only the person you matched with sees your messages. You can stop being discoverable at any time in Settings.

03 / How we use it

Only to run the app, calculate your taste match and recommendations, keep people safe and review reports. We don't sell your data or show ads.

04 / Reports and moderation

When you report someone, they're blocked for you automatically. We review reports. While reviewing, we may look at the reported profile and, if the report came from a chat, the messages in that chat. Profiles reported by several people are hidden from People until they're reviewed. We may close accounts that break the rules.

05 / Community guidelines

  • You must be 18 or older to use CineCatch's social features.
  • No harassment, threats, hate speech or discrimination.
  • No nudity or sexual content.
  • No fake identities, spam, scams or advertising.
  • Don't share anyone's personal information without their permission.

If someone breaks these rules, use Block or Report on their profile or in the chat.

06 / Third parties

  • Firebase (Google): stores your account and data, and Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers notifications. A message notification shows the sender's name and the start of the message.
  • Cloudflare: stores your profile photos and serves them to the app. When you upload a photo, it is checked automatically by an AI model on Cloudflare (Workers AI) for nudity, sexual content, violence and minors, and refused if it breaks the rules. The photo isn't used to train AI.
  • Apple: if you sign in with Apple, Apple confirms your identity and shares your name and email address (or a private relay address) with us.
  • Google Play, the App Store and RevenueCat: manage subscriptions. RevenueCat only receives an anonymous user ID, never your name or email.
  • Google Play Integrity (Android) and Apple App Attest (iPhone): check that requests come from the genuine app.
  • TMDB and OMDb: movie details and ratings. These requests only include movie IDs.

07 / Where it is stored

Your data is stored on Firebase (Google Cloud), and profile photos on Cloudflare R2. Security rules keep your private data, such as your email, birth year and movie lists, readable only by you. Your public profile is visible as described above.

08 / Deleting your data

Settings → Delete Account permanently deletes your account, profile, profile photos, notification tokens, invite code, movie lists, likes, blocks, matches and the messages you sent. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke CineCatch's access to your Apple account. Messages in a chat where you were reported, and records of reports about rule-breaking behavior, may be kept for safety reasons. Guest accounts lose their data as soon as they sign out.
